They support women and couples in taking responsibility for their journey into motherhood and parenthood and care for women and their families during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period.

The bachelor's degree program

  • prepares you to take on responsible tasks in obstetrics independently and in close collaboration with other health professionals.
  • Provides you with sound knowledge that you practice in a practice-like setting and subsequently apply in practice.
  • teaches you to think critically and to justify your actions in a scientifically sound manner.
  • teaches you to perceive the modern, interdisciplinary and -professional context and to contribute as a competent professional.
  • enables you to develop and apply solution-oriented methods both independently and in an interprofessional group.
  • enables you to specialize in a topic area of obstetrics after the bachelor's degree by completing the consecutive master's degree program in midwifery.
  • The full-time program lasts three years (6 semesters) followed by a ten-month additional module in practice.

  • The part-time study program is aimed at graduated nurses FH/HF or their predecessors. It lasts two and a half years (5 semesters).

Requirements

You are admitted to the program if you meet the school requirements, have successfully completed the aptitude test, and can provide evidence of the two-month nursing internship in a health care or social service institution before beginning your studies.

School requirements

You possess one of the following Swiss educational qualifications:

  • Professional baccalaureate
  • Specialized baccalaureate (four-year)
  • Gymnasium baccalaureate
  • Specific qualification in a health profession at the level of higher technical college and higher technical examination as per list

If you have not completed your education in German (for at least three years), you must prove sufficient knowledge of the German language. We require German level C1 according to the profile of the European Framework of Reference.

Foreign educational qualifications are assessed according to the swissuniversities guidelines.
