The aim of the master's program in early childhood is to train professionals who can think and work scientifically and prepare findings for practice. The program is interdisciplinary in conception, is oriented towards the current state of international research and explicitly takes into account implications for practical activity in the context of early childhood.
PHTG and University of Konstanz have been offering this interdisciplinary master's program since 2011. The cooperation between a university of excellence and a university of education is a characteristic of the program. Research and teaching as university focal points are complemented by the competencies of a university of education; thus, scientific findings and practical knowledge as well as project development in the field of education and care are brought together. The two universities thus combine research-oriented teaching and action-guiding practice.
In addition, there is close cooperation with the Marie Meierhofer Institute for the Child in Zurich and the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry of the University Hospital in Ulm. The course content is developed and taught by the professorships and working groups of the cooperating partners, and the participating lecturers are active in research and teaching at the respective institutions. They are supported by specialists from other universities and institutions.
The Early Childhood program begins at the beginning of October each year and usually lasts four semesters. In the case of part-time study, the duration of study is usually extended to six semesters. Seminars are usually held Wednesday through Friday. Upon completion of the program, graduates receive the diploma Master of Arts (MA) Early Childhood.
