How does the stock market work? How does trading in securities work? How can prices and risks of modern financial instruments (e.g. options, futures, swaps) be calculated? How does a concrete valuation of companies take place?
Financial mathematics is about modeling and analyzing financial markets and financial instruments. During your studies, you will deal with economic decision-making and optimization problems, which you will analyze mathematically.
You will study at two departments: you will learn the mathematical basics at the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, and the financial topics at the Department of Economics. This interdisciplinary orientation makes our program unique in Germany.
The prerequisite for admission to studies is the general university entrance qualification (Abitur) or a recognized equivalent university entrance qualification.
Proof of study orientation
At Baden-Württemberg universities, you must provide proof of your study orientation when applying for a place at university. The Baden-Württemberg orientation test is the most commonly used orientation procedure. You must include proof of participation in the orientation procedure with your application documents.
