The French Studies program is offered by the Department of Literary Studies. The focus is on the academic study of French-language literatures (literature of France and former colonies). You will acquire competencies to be able to speak and write about literature in an analytically and methodically reflective manner. The main focus is on approaches in literary theory, literary history and cultural studies.
In the linguistics part of the program, you will systematically deal with the structure and history of the French language. In addition to the linguistic core areas of phonology, morphology, syntax and semantics, you can take courses on language acquisition, the varieties of French or other topics. In the practical language courses you will improve your own linguistic skills in French. For example, you will take courses on regional studies, oral and written fluency, listening comprehension, and translation and grammar.
Can also be selected as an academic minor within the framework of another Bachelor's degree program in the humanities.
The prerequisite for admission to studies is the general university entrance qualification (Abitur) or a recognized equivalent university entrance qualification.
