Bachelor of Arts in Italian Studies

The Italian Studies program is offered by the Department of Literary Studies. It contains literary studies, linguistics, and practical language components. The focus is on the scientific examination of Italian literature. You will acquire competencies that will enable you to speak and write about literature in an analytical and methodologically reflective manner. The main focus is on approaches in literary theory, literary history and cultural studies. In the linguistics part of the program you will systematically deal with the structure and history of the Italian language. In addition to the linguistic core areas of phonology, morphology, syntax and semantics, you can take courses on language acquisition, the varieties of Italian or other topics. In the practical language courses you will improve your own linguistic skills in Italian. Among other things, you will take courses on regional studies, oral and written fluency, listening comprehension, translation, and grammar.

Can also be selected as an academic minor as part of another bachelor's degree program in the humanities.
